The way out of the trap of anxiety

Human life is a constant struggle, where happiness and sorrow follow each other like shadows. Human life is about happiness and sorrow, reunion and separation, easy and difficult situations, and illness and health, etc.

At some point in life, people are surrounded by worries. The sorrows accumulated in the heart hold the person's neck, which increases the person's worries even more.

When worries settle in a person's mind, his life becomes gloomy. He sees darkness even in the light of day, his hunger and thirst disappear, and the long silence of the night seems unbearable to him. It reduces the vitality of a person and causes premature old age.

Giving an idea of the negative effects of worries, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "The strongest of your Lord's creations are mountains; and iron carves mountains.

Fire consumes iron. Water extinguishes fire. The clouds, which are controlled between the sky and the earth, carry water. The wind carries the clouds.

Man protects himself from the wind with his hands and moves within it to fulfill his needs. Intoxication affects man. Sleep prevails over intoxication. And worry prevents sleep. So the strongest of your Lord's creations is worry. (Mujamul Awsat)

Worry is a human characteristic. Therefore, it is natural for anyone to worry. It also came in the lives of Allah's beloved prophets sometimes. Our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to be saddened by the rejection of his community, then Allah would comfort him. Prophet Yaqub (peace be upon him) lost his sight by crying in separation from his son Yusuf (peace be upon him), but he did not lose hope in Allah; rather, he trusted in Allah and asked for help from Allah. Therefore, a believer should seek help from Allah when he is worried. Below are some things to do when you are worried—

Faith and Taqwa: Whoever has complete trust and Taqwa in Allah, Allah Almighty will find a way out of any problem. The Holy Quran states, ‘Whoever fears Allah, Allah will find a way out for him.’ (Surah: At-Talaq, verse: 2)

Furthermore, if someone has complete faith in Allah, worry cannot have much effect on him, because he believes with all his heart that Allah Almighty will not do anything bad to him.

Recite Durood more: Reciting Durood on the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is the best balm to remove worry. Ubayy ibn Ka’b (may Allah be pleased with him) once informed the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about his frequent recitation of blessings, and the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “That will suffice for your worries and troubles, and your sins will be forgiven.” (Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2457)

Supplication and Istighfar: Crying out to Allah and making specific supplications in times of distress are also effective actions. Our Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also used to seek refuge in Allah for relief from worries. He used to pray, “O Allah! I seek refuge in You from worry, anxiety, helplessness, laziness, cowardice, stinginess, debt, and being under the influence of people.” (Bukhari, Hadith: 6369)

Making the Hereafter the main goal: Whoever’s main concern is the Hereafter, Allah grants him freedom from want and the world becomes insignificant to him. But if it is the opposite, Allah makes the world narrow for that person.

(For details, see Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2465)

Being content with what you have: One day, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to Hazrat Abu Zar (may Allah be pleased with him), Abu Zar, do you consider abundance of wealth as prosperity? Abu Zar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, Yes, O Messenger of Allah. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) then said, Do you consider scarcity of wealth as poverty? He said, Yes, O Messenger of Allah. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, Actually prosperity is prosperity of the heart, and poverty of the heart is real poverty. (Ibn Hibban: 685)

Therefore, a believer should be content with what he has. Be grateful to Allah in all circumstances. Insha Allah, Allah Almighty will reward him in this world and the Hereafter.
